Cambria County Assistance Office moving out of downtown Johnstown

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services said next spring the Cambria County Assistance Office will move into the Hiram G Andrews Center in Upper Yoder Township.

The Assistance Office is currently located on Main Street in downtown Johnstown.

The DHS said moving to the state-owned facility will lower operation costs.

They said there is a bus stop outside the Hiram G Andrews Center, and there will be free parking available, allowing for a variety of ways to transport to the Assistance Office.

Residents of downtown Johnstown said the move will make it more difficult to get the help they need.

“It's sad because it's an easier commute for everybody and I feel like people that don't have a vehicle to try to get up that way, it's going to be hard for them,” Johnstown resident Sky Graves said. “I think it will be a big impact because it is a lot of senior citizen buildings around here, and a lot of them are not too mobile so this should be easy for them to get to.”

Johnstown city officials said they are not aware of or involved in the relocation plans.
