Centre County store offering free back-to-school clothes for those in need

Just in time for back-to-school shopping, one Centre County store is looking to help people with financial struggles.

The Faith Centre in Bellefonte is offering free clothes through an event going on right now.

The center has several clothing racks full of free clothes for grades K through 12, and you don't have to live in the area to take advantage.

“We do know that there are a lot of families in Centre County and in the surrounded counties that are barely making ends meet,” says Faith Center’s executive director, Nicole Summers. “So what we wanted to do is just sort of give back to the community and help families prepare for school and offset some of the expenses because, you know, it can cost a lot between clothing and school supplies and technology."

Organizers say last year's back-to-school event assisted hundreds of families in Centre County and they're expecting even higher numbers this year.

"We gave away about $9,000 worth of clothing, and that’s thrift store price,” says Summers. “So, we’re talking 99 cents an item. I'm imagining that we would probably see about (500) to 600 families during this time, although it seems a lot busier than last year. "

Each kid is allowed to take home three outfits and one pair of shoes for their back-to-school wardrobe.

The event runs through Saturday.
