The Highspire Borough Manager confirmed today that the man who was charged with animal cruelty after police found his dog severely underweight is an officer for the Highspire Police Department.

According to a police report, officers found a dog owned by 51-year-old police officer Jeffery Scott Levan severely underweight in June of 2019.

Pictures obtained from a source show bones visibly protruding from the Golden/Labrador's body and sores on its leg.

Police say the dog was found roughly 20-30 lbs. underweight and smelling of urine.
