HUNTINGDON – Huntingdon County District Attorney David Smith said Friday that the investigations into the shooting death of Pennsylvania State Trooper Landon Weaver last month and the Dec. 31 officer-involved shooting death of suspect Jason Robison are ongoing.

But Smith said that based on a preliminary review of the evidence, he believes that the actions taken by a member of the state police were justified in the shooting death of Robison.

“The District Attorney’s Office is working in conjunction with Troop G members of the Pennsylvania State Police,” Smith said in a statement. “In accordance with PSP guidelines, no one from the Pennsylvania State Police Huntingdon barracks is working on the investigation.

“As part of the investigation, the state police Forensic Services Unit has processed both (crime) scenes. The scenes have been photographed, mapped and processed. Witnesses and other parties have been interviewed, and investigators will brief the District Attorney’s Office once the investigations have been completed.”

Smith said he understands the public’s desire to have answers in a timely fashion, but he said it is “equally important as a matter of truth and justice that we get it right.”

“Based on my preliminary review of the evidence, I am satisfied (with) the actions taken by the member of the Pennsylvania State Police were justified,” Smith said.

Weaver, 23, had been on the job for about a year.
