Authorities with the Pennsylvania Game Commission had to free an elk in Cameron County earlier this week after the animal became entangled in a telephone wire.

Wildlife officials say they were dispatched on Tuesday, Sept. 26, after receiving a call that the 6x6 bull elk was reportedly wrapped around a pine tree in Sinnemahoning, Cameron County.

Officials say the bull was sedated as rescuers worked to cut the wire and free it from the elk's antlers.

Wildlife authorities say the bull was able to walk away unharmed and the animal was fitted with a GPS tracking device so officials can monitor the elk's future health.

Officials remind the public to remove any loose items from their properties, especially this time of year.

The Game Commission adds that any wildlife issues should be reported to 1-833-PGC-WILD (833-742- 9453).
