HARRISBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — State officials announced that two staffers from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency are being deployed to California to assist in the recovery efforts after several storms brought devastating flooding and damage to many parts of the state.
“The impact of historic and deadly flooding seen recently in California has been as shocking as it has been heartbreaking,” said PEMA Director Randy Padfield. “Pennsylvania is one of the most flood-prone states in the nation, and as a result, our staff have the experience to provide this much-needed support to our counterparts and communities in California.”
Officials say the two staffers will be deployed in California for two weeks.
Authorities note that no Pennsylvania taxpayer dollars are used for such deployments, as they are paid for by the requesting state.
The American Red Cross has also deployed hundreds of volunteers to California, including an Altoona man, and are asking for additional volunteers.
