SNOW SHOE – Rest areas at mile marker 146 on Interstate 80 in the Snow Shoe area reopened around 9 a.m. Saturday after being closed since mid-August while work was done nearby, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials said.
Officials said the rest areas were closed while improvements were made to rest-area approaches, parking lots, curbs, drainage, sidewalks and lighting.
The work is a facet of a large PennDOT task to revamp Interstate 80, according to officials.
Officials said State College-based HRI Inc. will mill and repave the road, and improve drainage, on a section of Interstate 80 that stretches from the viaduct bridges to the Yarnell area at mile marker 154 in 2018. According to officials, that project will cost $21.7 million.
