One student was killed and nearly two dozen others were injured in a school bus crash Tuesday morning in Clark County, Ohio.

Dayton Children's Hospital confirmed it was treating 22 children in connection to the crash. One other child was listed in serious condition.

It is Northwestern Local Schools' first day of the school year, according to the district website.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a man driving a Honda Odyssey minivan crossed the center line just after 8:15 a.m. and struck the bus. As a result of the crash the bus landed on its side. The bus driver suffered minor injuries. There were 53 people on the bus in all, including the driver.

Images from the scene showed numerous first responders working around the overturned school bus along State Route 41. The crash was near the Northwestern Local Schools campus on State Route 41.

The district earlier posted on social media about the crash and directed students to a reunification area at a fire station nearby.
